Workstation or Teams.
Pick the right edition.
Both editions give every case the same structured case workspace: people, vehicles, places, assets, loss and impact, notes, tasks, findings, a timeline, and a verifier-ready export package anyone can verify. The difference is shape. Workstation is one investigator or a shared PC; Teams is several investigators on a shared workspace.
Most teams know which one after one read.
EMP Intake WS runs on one workstation with local SQLite storage. Teams adds shared cases, roles and a Workspace API on infrastructure you control; its pilot is planned for 2027. NIST alignment is a design target, not certification. SP 800-101 references concern acquired mobile-device evidence, not device extraction.
EMP Intake Workstation · solo or shared Workstation
- A single investigator, or shared workstation
- You want a workstation install, no server to run
- Local SQLite storage you control is the right fit
- Budget is $29–$99 per workstation / month
- You can start a 14-day trial today, no card
EMP Intake Teams · multi-user
- Multiple investigators sharing cases across workstations
- A corporate security, loss prevention, or paralegal team
- An on-prem or private cloud requirement, on your infrastructure
- You need role based access and centralized, cross investigator audit
- Pilot waitlist is open: recruiting a small founding cohort of organizations for 2027
Is the Teams pilot a fit?
The Teams pilot is planned for 2027. It runs on PostgreSQL on infrastructure you control. There is no fully managed cloud, and EMP Intake is not SOC 2 certified.
- YesSeveral attributed users working shared cases.
- YesAble to run a PostgreSQL database on infrastructure you control.
- YesWilling to work directly with the founders during onboarding.
- WaitYou need SOC 2 procurement today.
- WaitYou require SSO or SIEM integrations as a condition of joining the pilot.
- WaitYou need fully managed cloud evidence hosting from Falcrex. EMP is local-first and self-hosted; there is no managed cloud yet.
Every difference, on one page.
Migration, licensing, and timing.
Can I start with EMP Workstation and move to Teams later?
You can start with WS today. Moving cases into Teams needs to be confirmed during pilot planning; do not assume automatic case migration.
Why two products instead of tiers of one?
Different storage engines (SQLite vs a packaged PostgreSQL runtime), different identity models (local auth vs RBAC and workspace login), and different deployment shapes (a workstation vs a service on your infrastructure). A single sliding scale would compromise both ends; keeping them distinct keeps each honest.
Do the editions share a license?
No. EMP WS is a per-workstation subscription with a 14-day trial. EMP Teams is a separately scoped pilot engagement with no public list price. Deployment, user count, and commercial terms are confirmed during pilot onboarding. What both editions share is the integrity work, not the license: hashing, audit trails, and the same Export Package format.
Is EMP Teams available today?
The EMP Teams pilot is planned for 2027. The PostgreSQL workspace build is still maturing, and we are recruiting a small founding cohort of organizations for 2027 with direct co-founder onboarding. EMP WS ships today, so most solo investigators start there and grow into Teams when the caseload becomes a team workload.
